NIGERIA
This initiative, led by humanitarian Felicia U. Amanambu in collaboration with Catholic World Mission, focuses on addressing one of the most urgent needs of the community—safe and dignified restroom facilities. Felicia, a lifelong Catholic with decades of humanitarian service, began her mission of compassion during the Nigerian Biafra crisis and has continued her work internationally, always guided by her faith and a commitment to serving the poor and marginalized.
Today, many children are forced to use unsafe bushes as toilets, leading to health risks, missed school days, and even dangerous encounters with snakes. By building proper restrooms, this project will improve hygiene, prevent disease, restore dignity, and allow children—especially girls—to attend school consistently.
UNSAFE TOILETS
More than a construction effort, this mission reflects Catholic social teaching by upholding human dignity, solidarity, and the preferential option for the poor. With the support of Catholic World Mission and generous partners, we are transforming despair into hope and creating healthier, stronger communities where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
PROJECT UPDATES
New Toilets Keep Kids In School
August 2025
On behalf of the management, staff, and pupils of Umunuko Centra School Ukpor in Nigeria, we humbly appreciate the supporters of Catholic World Mission, for sponsoring the construction of five modern toilet facilities for the school.
DURING CONSTRUCTION
AFTER
Since the new toilet facilities have been constructed there has been an increase in attendance of girls, and a sense of relief and dignity among all our students—who no longer have to resort to using the bush to meet this basic need.
We pray that Almighty God will continue to bless, guide, and protect you for your generosity and compassion.
