NIGERIA

Help Catholic Sisters bring hope
for the future through the dignity of work

In Igboland, Nigeria, families know the earth and how to work it. But for many, that has not been enough. Emergencies like armed conflict, inflation, and extreme weather have left people without jobs or food. A deep kind of poverty has settled in, the kind that tells people, “You have been forgotten.”

The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary remember God’s people, no matter what they’re going through. Known as “The Smiling Nuns,” these Sisters have spent nearly 90 years bringing the Gospel to communities in need and caring for the most vulnerable.

They operate the Seeds of Faith farm, where 30 people are learning to raise crops, tend livestock, and build a livelihood rooted in dignity and faith. Each harvest is shared with widows, orphans, and the elderly. Work becomes a form of prayer.

This is not charity; it is restoration. When you give people seeds, tools, and the love of Christ, communities do not just survive, they thrive and grow.

The Catechism teaches that work allows us to share in God’s creation (CCC 2427). For families in Nigeria, the Seeds of Faith farm makes that teaching tangible.

GUINEA

In the villages of West Africa, these brave Sisters need you …

If St. Paul were alive today, I wouldn’t be surprised to find him working alongside Sister Marta Cardona in Guinea, a primarily Muslim nation in West Africa.

Sister Marta knows the high price of missionary life all too well. In Guinea, Catholics are a tiny, marginalized minority. Sister Marta and her small community barely have enough to live on. They certainly cannot afford a security fence, which is a grave safety concern.

The Sisters teach children who sit in the dirt as they learn. Local seminarians have no books to support their studies. Most members of the community don’t even have access to Bibles!

Catechumens gather with Sister Marta under the open sky because they have no proper meeting space. Still, these brave faithful come to learn about Jesus and the Catholic Church. Their families don’t understand their choices … their neighbors don’t respect their beliefs … and their culture doesn’t support their conversion.

Sister Marta and her community of believers risk everything for their faith. Will you stand in solidarity with them? Please give generously in the spirit of St. Paul today.

A half-finished Marian grotto is the most formal symbol of the Catholic faith in the community Sister Marta serves. You can help complete the grotto and protect it from damaging weather.

Your caring gift today can help install lighting and fencing to keep the Sisters and their community safe. You can also help provide Bibles, Liturgy of the Hours books, and much more to bring the Good News to those who most need to hear it
