Your gift of gratitude
can change the life of a hungry child.

This season, I’m grateful for my family, home, and friends like you, while remembering the millions who lack what every child of God deserves. I hope you’ll keep them in your prayers and help us reach more through Catholic World Mission.

My heart goes out in a special way to the Hmong people in Vietnam. As an ethnic minority, they are marginalized and live in deep poverty. Children are malnourished, subsisting on only water, rice, and pickled bamboo. To survive, parents must work in rice paddies, often leaving their young children home alone.

The Lovers of the Holy Cross, an order of nuns in Vietnam, have devoted their lives to ministering to this all-but-forgotten community. They provide a nutritious lunch for children who come for Catechism and language classes. They also provide childcare and tutor students, feed the elderly, repair families’ houses, and build roads to connect communities.

Through their works of mercy, the Lovers of the Holy Cross are creating a community in which each person can participate fully and know the love of God. But they can’t do it alone.

As Isaiah promises: “If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness” (58:10).

Will you help these courageous sisters care for some of the world’s most vulnerable people? During this season of thanks, pour out your gratitude through mercy that will change lives!

Wishing you a blessed Thanksgiving.

INDIA

Make sure children can live and learn
with dignity and safety

The children of St. Xavier’s English Primary School in India come from far and wide, regardless of religion, to learn in the image of Christ.

About 400 students attend the school in Umarpada, a remote tribal village.

While they’re learning about their inherent dignity as children of God, the school’s facilities don’t always reflect that. The Diocese of Baroda has contributed to renovations, but the reconstruction of the restrooms is beyond its means — leaving children with dilapidated bathrooms that are no longer fit for use.

“The toilet facilities for the children are extremely poor. In fact, I am even ashamed to speak of them,” Bishop Sebastiano Mascarenhas says.

Your gift to Catholic World Mission today can help keep children healthy, comfortable, and safe. You can help construct proper restroom facilities, with more privacy and better sanitation, that reflect and respect the dignity of each St. Xavier student.

About 180 children aged 9-14 live on campus at St. Xavier. Your gift today will ensure their home away from home is safe and sanitary, so they can focus on learning and deepening their relationship with God.

Your kindness will make a ripple effect beyond the campus, as well, by offering an example of improved hygiene that will inspire and educate the wider community.

Can some of God’s most vulnerable children count on your compassion today?
