A Dream That Became a Future
Pacheco Family
Eusolio and Eli Pacheco Martínez arrived in Monterrey seventeen years ago from a village that could not give their family what it needed. They came with two daughters, with many dreams, and with a faith they have never lost in any circumstance they have faced.
Belinda, their older daughter, has just finished at Mano Amiga and is about to enter university. Rubí, their younger, is in fifth grade.
They are deeply grateful, they say, to everyone who has walked alongside them on this journey.

A Faith Passed On

Zitlali Ramírez came to Mano Amiga with her children and found more than a school. She found a family—a place where teachers know, support, and spiritually embrace each child.
Her son Patricio completed elementary school at Mano Amiga before answering an unexpected call to the minor seminary. He has now completed his first year with an Academic Excellence Award. His sister Kelina, at Mano Amiga since preschool, is thriving.
Like the faith St. Paul describes passing from one generation to the next (2 Timothy 1:5), Zitlali's faith is taking root in her children. Home planted it. Mano Amiga helped nurture it.

Since Preschool
Karla and her mom, Elsa Zavala
Elsa Zavala is eleven years old and has been at Mano Amiga since preschool, for as long as she can remember. She plays soccer in the Tournament of Friendship and has two cats, one adopted and one rescued. Her friends are as familiar to her as she is to them. Every day she continues learning, and she especially appreciates the values she is given there. She already knows she will carry them for the rest of her life.
She is only eleven. And she already knows what she has been given.

Across 20 Mano Amiga schools, more than 10,500 families are being accompanied through education and formation. More than 9,000 students have graduated. Of those graduates, 90% continue to higher education, and 80% return to work in their own communities.

Our mission is to provide not only academic excellence but also spiritual guidance and support to the students and their families. Through our educational and pedagogical program, we focus on developing four crucial aspects of each individual: spiritual, scientific, human, and social. Programs
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS: Individual communication and guidance for parents to help them achieve economic sustainability for their families. HEALTH PROGRAM: Includes first level health care for students and teaching staff. There students and teachers can get basic clinical examinations, eye care, hearing and oral health diagnostics. ECONOMIC PROGRAM: Individual communication and guidance to parents to help them with family economic sustainability, and student permanence approach with the school as a development center. NUTRITION PROGRAM: The program not only serves their parents as well” should say “The program not only serves the children, but their parents as well,” or “The program serves the students’ parents as well.
Impact
HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT for students. COMBAT THE PHENOMENA OF SOCIAL DECAY: - Comprehensive training, based on values and morals; emotional intelligence; development of will; respect for others; the practice of justice and tolerance; the exercise of freedom, peace and respect for nature. - Combat school dropout through a long-term project that monitors students to keep them in the institution. - Prepare students to enter the labor market. - Provide access to health and medicine to very needy families of the students. - Support parents in search of work. - Complement the educational hub with family support programs and community development.
Expanding Our Reach and Impact
Education as a Catalyst for Change
Argentina has a population of 43 million people - 92% of whom are Catholic! Unfortunately, approximately 12 million of Argentinians - 30% - live below the poverty line. The labor force in Argentina is made up of nearly 18 million people working in agriculture, industry, or services. Phenomenally, on average, Argentina has 98% literacy for men and women! This can only be compared with the average number of years an Argentinian spends in school: 17 years. For so many students, it is truly a blessing to grow up in Argentina, however in rural areas it is much harder to keep focus on school. Even their education is essential to end the cycle of poverty and help people rise above and beyond the poverty line.
Mano Amiga Santa María opened in 2003 and offers educational programs ranging from elementary to high school, continuing education workshops and training for teachers, students, and parents; and, a wide
array of extra-curricular activities.
Its educational and pedagogical program focuses on developing 4 important aspects of each person: spiritual, scientific, human, and social. Mano Amiga Santa María also offers training programs for teachers, as well as important spiritual formation courses for parents.
With the help of CWM, Mano Amiga Santa María provides excellent education to poor children and adolescents.
