Forming Faithful Leaders for the Church in Africa
Catholic World Mission is supporting scholarship funding for African clergy and religious to pursue a Master in Global Bioethics through the School of Bioethics at Universidad Anáhuac México. The goal of the program is to form Catholic leaders who can address today's complex ethical, medical, and social issues through the lens of Church teaching and the dignity of the human person.
Rather than serving a single community, the project creates a multiplying effect across the Church in Africa. The scholarships currently support 13 priests and one religious sister from five countries: Malawi, Zambia, Nigeria, Uganda, and Kenya. These students return what they learn directly to their ministries, serving in parishes, schools, seminaries, hospitals, prisons, and youth programs.
Provide better pastoral care to families facing difficult medical and moral decisions.
Defend the sanctity of life and promote human dignity in their communities.
Educate youth, seminarians, healthcare workers, and lay leaders on Catholic bioethical principles.
Accompany the sick, elderly, vulnerable populations, and incarcerated individuals with compassion and ethical guidance.
This project is forming Catholic leaders who are strengthening the Church across Africa. Through their ministries, one scholarship becomes a lasting investment in evangelization, human dignity, and pastoral care for countless lives.

Formation That Multiplies Its Impact
September 2026
Thanks to the generosity of Catholic World Mission donors, 13 priests and religious sisters from five African countries received scholarships for the online Master in Global Bioethics at Universidad Anáhuac México. The program is forming Church leaders to bring faithful, compassionate guidance to parishes, schools, hospitals, prisons, seminaries, and families across Africa.

102 students served since 2019; 28 currently enrolled
Studies applied in pastoral counseling, healthcare outreach, prison chaplaincy, seminary formation, Catholic education, and youth ministry
One scholarship recipient, Fr. Bernard Rabwoni, has authored four scholarly articles, with two accepted for publication in Medicina y Ética.
These priests and sisters are helping the Church proclaim the Gospel of Life in the middle of hard ethical and pastoral questions: medical decisions in families, care for the sick and elderly, prison ministry, work with young people, and the formation of future Catholic leaders.
What they learn does not stay in the classroom. Through preaching, catechesis, the sacraments, counseling, and Catholic schools, their formation reaches thousands in parish life, hospitals, and classrooms.
