Combating Food Insecurity

DR CONGO

In the Diocese of Kasongo, food insecurity is a daily struggle for many families in Maniema Province. Despite the land’s natural richness, limited education on sustainable farming practices and resource management has hindered productivity. Farmers are faced with numerous problems like producing in average quantities insufficient to feed the community. Sometimes products rot in homes because crops are not processed accordingly. Many live on less than $1 a day.
“The seed is the word of God… But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.” - Luke 8:11,15
PROJECT UPDATES
Rooted in Faith, Growing in Hope: Maniema’s Path to Fruitful Transformation
July 2025
Thanks to your generous support, Catholic World Mission is helping restore hope and dignity to this community. With faith in God’s providence and the strength of local partnerships, we are supporting the introduction of an Agro-Silvo-Pastoral System—a sustainable land management approach that integrates trees, crops, and livestock. This system not only combats deforestation but also enhances food production and long-term self-reliance.
A successful project launch brought together over 20 local organizations and leaders, united in our shared mission to build peace, joy, and development rooted in love. Seeds have already been purchased, packaged, and delivered to farming communities. The next phase includes the introduction of livestock, starting with goats, to further enhance food security and sustainability.
With your continued support and prayers, we will help families thrive—planting seeds of hope today for a fruitful tomorrow.
“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” - Galatians 6:9
