A Stable Home for Prayer, Formation, and Service

The Sisters of the Association of Mary, Mother of Life have dedicated their lives to serving vulnerable mothers, children, and the elderly poor throughout Vietnam. Rooted in the Dominican charism, their ministries provide spiritual accompaniment, education, and compassionate care to those most in need.

Today, nearly 200 Sisters live in a residence built in 1964 that has become increasingly unsafe due to cracked walls, a leaking roof, and a deteriorating foundation. To ensure the continued formation and well-being of the community, the Sisters are constructing a new convent that will provide a secure environment for prayer, study, community life, and preparation for apostolic service.

Catholic World Mission's support will help complete critical phases of construction, including the roof, electrical and water systems, and essential living and community spaces. This project will provide the Sisters with a stable home where they can deepen their religious formation and continue their mission of serving Christ in the poor. By strengthening this community of consecrated women, the project will have a lasting impact on the thousands of individuals and families who benefit each year from the Sisters' pastoral and charitable ministries.

PROJECT UPDATES

Supporting the Sisters Who Serve Vietnam's Most Vulnerable

The Sisters of the Association of Mary, Mother of Life continue to make significant progress in the construction of their new convent in northern Vietnam. This project was launched to replace the congregation's aging residence, built in 1964, which had become increasingly unsafe due to structural deterioration. The new convent will provide a secure environment where the Sisters can live, pray, receive formation, and prepare for their ministries serving vulnerable mothers, children, and the elderly poor.

Thanks to the generosity of Catholic World Mission donors, two critical phases of construction have recently advanced. Funding provided for the roofing project enabled the purchase of steel, clay roof tiles, construction materials, equipment rentals, and labor. The roof is now substantially complete, with only the final ceiling installation remaining.

Additional support has also funded the electrical and plumbing systems for one half of the new building, allowing construction to continue steadily. As a result of this progress, nearly half of the convent has been completed. Although much work remains, the Sisters were able to move 20 Sisters into the finished section, helping relieve overcrowding at the Motherhouse, where more than 70 Sisters had been sharing limited living space.

Beyond addressing an immediate housing need, this project is strengthening the future of the congregation's mission. During this period of growth, the community also celebrated the First Profession of six Sisters and the Perpetual Profession of four Sisters, a joyful sign of God's continued call and blessing upon their apostolate.

Construction is now moving forward on the remaining portion of the building, which represents the most significant and costly stage of the project. The Sisters remain deeply grateful for the prayers, encouragement, and generosity of Catholic World Mission benefactors. With continued support, this new convent will provide a lasting foundation for the spiritual formation of future religious Sisters and the continuation of their life-giving service to the Church and the people of Vietnam.
