The Rock that does not move

Global oil prices are climbing past $100 per barrel as geopolitical tensions escalate, raising fears of economic slowdowns and “demand destruction” across global markets. The International Energy Agency even described the current disruptions as “the largest supply disruption in the history of the global oil market,” driven by the ongoing war in the Middle East and significant production shutdowns.
Disruption to such an essential economic staple no doubt creates concern. What is the deeper invitation posed by uncertainty? Times of tension reveal both our vulnerabilities and our values.
Whether we’re leading a team, a nonprofit, a parish community, or a family, seasons of uncertainty force us to ask:

Where do I place my trust? What anchors my decisions when the landscape shifts? How do I lead others when the road ahead is unclear?
From a faith perspective, these global disruptions remind us of a simple truth:
We don’t control the winds, but we’re responsible for how we steer our ship. We can acknowledge uncertainty without being enslaved by it. We can plan prudently and communicate clearly, and care for people as Christ would have us — even when external forces are beyond our influence.
And perhaps most importantly, we can inspire others to choose trust over fear.
Leadership isn’t proven in steady waters; it’s shaped in the storm.
The rising cost of oil may shake markets, but it can also strengthen our resolve to lead with calm, clarity, and conviction.
If anything, this moment reminds us to build our security on the Rock that does not move.
