August always brings a certain kind of energy—new shoes, sharpened pencils, lunchboxes that still smell like the factory, and that mix of excitement and nerves we all remember from the first day of school. For many of us, it’s a familiar rhythm. But for the families we serve, it can also be a time of real struggle—financial pressure, uncertainty, and tough choices.

At Catholic World Mission, we believe education is more than books and classrooms—it’s a sacred opportunity to live out love, justice, and faith. Every child deserves to step into school feeling ready, supported, and most importantly, known and loved.

As St. John Bosco wisely said: “Education is a matter of the heart.” And we believe that with our whole hearts.

A Fresh Start, Thanks to You

This month, your generosity has helped families get ready for the school year in powerful ways—backpacks, uniforms, school supplies, and even transportation assistance. For many children, this fall marks a new beginning: the first day of kindergarten with a big smile, or a high school student walking in with confidence and a sense of belonging.

Behind every backpack is a bigger story: of a mother doing her best, of a young girl dreaming of becoming a nurse, of families holding on to hope through faith and community. And because of you, they’re not walking this road alone.

Why Catholic Education Matters

One of the most beautiful parts of this mission is our commitment to Catholic education—because it’s not just about academic excellence (though that’s important). It’s about helping children grow in virtue, faith, and identity.

In Catholic schools, students don’t just learn to read and write. They learn who they are in Christ. They encounter truth, beauty, and goodness—not just in textbooks, but in the witness of teachers, the rhythm of prayer, and the sacramental life of the Church.

For families facing poverty or instability, Catholic education can be a life-changing gift. It forms not just smart students, but compassionate leaders, faith-filled citizens, and future saints.

Our Catholic Call to Educate and Uplift

Jesus never turned away a child. In fact, He made space for them, lifted them up, and reminded His followers that the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. When we support education—especially Catholic education—we are answering that same call.

As St. John Bosco wisely said: “Education is a matter of the heart.” And we believe that with our whole hearts.

How You Can Help

This season, you can be part of something bigger than school supplies:

  • Sponsor a child’s Catholic education

  • Donate a backpack or basic supplies

  • Offer your prayers for teachers, students, and struggling families

  • Volunteer or spread the word

Every act of love—every dollar, every rosary, every kind word—helps plant seeds that can grow into something beautiful.

If you feel called to give, you can donate here.

Let’s begin this school year rooted in faith, fueled by hope, and committed to building a future where every child knows they are loved—by their family, by their Church, and by God.

With grateful hearts, The Catholic World Mission Team.
