Strengthening Faith and Rural Evangelization in Liberia.

Due to economic hardships in post-war Liberia, the Archdiocese of Monrovia struggles to fund pastoral training, evangelization workshops, and faith formation events. Many families cannot afford transportation or registration fees for youth camps and gatherings, leading to a decline in local support for evangelization. The Evangelization and Rural Pastoral Outreach project aims to revitalize faith through retreats, youth camps, parish visits, and faith-based excursions. By deepening faith formation in schools and communities, the project fosters moral growth, responsible citizenship, and a stronger commitment to the Church. Through the funds of its generous donors, CWM will provide retreats, symposiums and other gatherings to ensure that more people embrace their faith, seek the sacraments, and strive to build a morally and spiritually fruitful society.

“Cut Off from Me You Can Do Nothing”: Forming Missionary Leaders in Faith

May 2026

Forming Missionary Leaders in Faith in Liberia.

On March 7, 2026, 51 Pontifical Missionary Childhood (PMC) animators gathered at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Monrovia for a day of spiritual renewal and missionary formation. Participants represented 16 parishes, two outstations, and one Catholic school, including all parishes from the distant Kataka Deanery, a testament to their strong commitment to forming children in the faith.

Held under the Lenten theme, “Cut off from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5), the recollection emphasized the importance of remaining united with Christ in missionary service. Animators deepened their spiritual lives through prayer, the Mission Rosary, hymns, and reflections on the three pillars of Lent: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

The day included a collaborative meeting where participants shared their successes in children’s catechesis and missionary groups, while also identifying challenges such as limited parental support. Together, they reaffirmed the mission of the PMC: to help children know Christ, foster charity, encourage prayer, and actively engage in the Church’s missionary life.

Led by Rev. Fr. Johnny-Clement Kombo and Mrs. Philomina G. Stevens, the program concluded with renewed zeal among animators. The gathering strengthened their sense of missionary identity, unity, and collaboration during this sacred season of Easter preparation. Participants also committed to ongoing formation through biannual meetings for planning, training, and recollection.

Animators departed having been inspired to guide children more faithfully in prayer, charity, and missionary awareness, ensuring that the seeds of faith continue to grow across their communities.
