What:
Safe Passages Mission Trip to Uganda
When:
July 9 -18, 2026
Where:
Jinja, Uganda
Purpose:
The Safe Passages Mission Trip equips midwives and nurses at rural health facilities across Africa with life‑saving emergency obstetrical skills and tools, serving communities where maternal and infant mortality rates are highest.
Catholic World Mission is seeking short‑term medical volunteers, including physicians, nurse practitioners, midwives, nurses, and natural family planning (NFP) experts, who feel called to serve through professional expertise and global outreach. Volunteers will help train Ugandan clinicians in the Safe Passages program, as well as in initiatives focused on malnutrition, stunting prevention, and natural family planning.
The Safe Passages program integrates best practices in obstetrical care into a step‑by‑step training and resource assistance model. It focuses on the leading causes of maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity, including obstetrical hemorrhage, hypertensive disorders, sepsis and infection, obstructed labor, and anesthesia‑related complications. Emphasis is placed on practical, evidence‑based interventions suitable for resource‑limited settings.
All volunteers receive training in Safe Passages protocols prior to deployment, enabling them to serve as effective trainers. Following the mission trip, Catholic World Mission encourages continued engagement and ongoing mentorship and advisory relationships with the clinicians they trained.
