Giving as an Act of Faith
Danny Sequeira was born and raised Catholic, but for him, faith was never just about attending Mass on Sunday. From an early age, he felt a missionary zeal to go out and help the less fortunate. “Being a Catholic is part of my DNA,” he says. “Faith is right at the center of how I live my life.”

That conviction has guided Danny through marriage, raising his two children, and his life in Atlanta, Georgia. Through the guidance of spiritual directors like Fr. Joe Mendez, Danny came to understand the Gospel more deeply—and to see that his earthly journey was meant to help him achieve his heavenly one.
For Danny, one Bible verse stands above the rest: Matthew 25:35. *“When I was hungry, you gave me to eat; when I was naked, you clothed me.” This scripture became the foundation of his personal mission to see the face of God in the poor—and to serve Christ himself by serving those in need.
Danny has been involved with Catholic World Mission for over 12 years and serves as a Board Member. He joined because the organization’s three pillars—evangelization, education, and family—resonate deeply with his own values. “There was a lot that I could do,” he says. Together with the Catholic World Mission team, Danny has helped make possible an extraordinary reach of Catholic outreach around the globe.
Through the work of Catholic World Mission and its partners—including Danny’s faithful service—over 30 monstrances have been distributed to parishes in need. Schools have been built to provide dignified living and learning. Communities in some of the most far-flung destinations of the world have received aid. In Bangladesh, Catholic World Mission supported essential expenses for families. In Pakistan, the organization came alongside congregations whose churches had been burned. In Sri Lanka, medical care was provided for 700 people—many of whom received health check-ups for the first time in their lives. There, the mission discovered that 300 people had subclinical hypertension and helped children suffering from thalassemia. In Ecuador, Catholic World Mission has helped bring drinking water to villages and serve orphans in the name of St. Francis de Sales.
“We don’t realize how important it is for people and communities living in poverty to see that they are cared for,” Danny reflects. “We were all created in the image of God.”
When asked what inspires his generosity, Danny distinguishes between giving treasure and giving time—they are two expressions of the same act of faith. Both require giving of yourself. Both are born from a heart that trusts in God. He lives by the words often attributed to St. Francis of Assisi: “Preach the Gospel. Use words if necessary.”
For those who want to get involved in mission work but don’t know where to start, Danny offers simple, direct advice that bridges that very call to evangelize with the source of all mission: “Get on your knees and pray before the Blessed Sacrament. Open up your heart and let the Lord speak to you. If it is His will, it will happen. He will guide you in a manner that is best suited for you to help.” In other words, before we preach the Gospel—even with our lives—we must first receive it in silence before the Lord.
As he looks to the legacy he hopes to leave, Danny reflects on wha
t matters most: not the year of birth or the year of death, but how you live your life in between. “Do your best,” he says. “Leave the rest to the Lord.” He has seen how one person’s faithful witness can inspire others to step forward. “There are a lot of people watching you,” Danny observes. “It’s really important to believe in providence and the will of God.”
For Danny Sequeira, giving as an act of faith means living in such a way that others see Christ in you—and are moved to do the same.
The Catholic World Mission team is honored to name Danny a ‘Light of the World’ and thanks him for his generous heart, his faithful service on the Board, and his unwavering commitment to seeing the face of God in the poor.
