Change for Change Apostolate
Methodology
Step 1

Display a picture of the Mano Amiga child or children being sponsored in the classroom, present their family background and discuss their needs. Make the people and situation as “real” as possible. Describe Catholic World Mission and their excellent work begin done to help the poor. Connect the leadership opportunities/responsibilities of this situation with the spiritual/apostolic formation they receive.
Step 2
Introduce the campaign to your school by displaying a life-sized picture of the Mano Amiga child or children being sponsored in a public location.
Step 3
Kickoff the “Change for Change” campaign. Each classroom receives a coin bucket and picture of the Mano Amiga child or children being sponsored. This campaign is student driven and organized/ facilitated by the children of the highest grade level in the school.
Step 4
Attach a letter to introduce the program in the Friday packet for the school’s families.
Step 5
List weekly totals on the front page of the Friday Packet to keep the families involved and informed.
Step 6
Sell “fun food snacks” during the Hispanic Heritage Festival (or other planned festivals) with all proceeds to benefi t the “Change for Change” Program.
1. The school’s oldest students continue to offer additional campaigns throughout the school year to offset current year’s tuition costs.
Step 7
Close out the “Change for Change” campaign.
Campaign goal
Students are asked to bring loose change (perhaps by sacrificing a favorite dessert) to put in the coin bucket.
- This campaign is student driven. Students are not to ask parents for money for the coin bucket, but should provide it through personal sacrifice.
- Money is collected weekly by the oldest students and counted by teachers. Weekly deposits are made through the business manager.
- Tallies are posted on a Catholic World Mission bulletin board next to the chapel. First through third place is announced on Friday at morning assembly.
