Press Release - Vatican News Service - October 26, 2004

The Vatican has announced that it has appointed Fr. Pedro Pablo Elizondo Cardenas, L.C., episcopal vicar of the territorial prelature of Cancun-Chetumal, Mexico, as bishop prelate of the same prelature (area 50,843, population 1,150,000, Catholics 900,000, priests 52, permanent deacons 3, religious 144).  The bishop-elect was born in San Jose de Gracia, Mexico in 1949 and was ordained a priest in 1974.  He succeeds Bishop Jorge Bernal Vargas, L.C., whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same prelature was accepted upon having reached the age limit.

Fr. Pedro Pablo became President of Catholic World Mission in March, 2003, and we are pleased to announce his elevation.
