Letter from the President, Father Pedro Pablo
Greetings in Christ!
I am very excited to be asked to become President of Catholic World Mission. As Episcopal Vicar of the mission prelature of Cancún-Chetumal, I confront daily the need for an integral approach to the evangelization of the poor in Latin America today.
In fact, I am spending most of my time among the Mayan Indians of Mexico, ministering to their needs with the fullness of the Gospel. Catholic World Mission's 'whole person' approach to overcoming poverty is one that is near to my heart. We must bring all our resources to bear to overcome the urgent physical poverty of so many and at the same time provide education and job training so they can hope for a future free from poverty. But we must always have the long term in mind — the eternal salvation of those we are serving — which means we cannot stop by simply striving to make their life on earth more comfortable. We need to teach the fullness of the Catholic Faith and help everyone to live that Faith, to heed the personal call of Jesus Christ and to accomplish the specific mission He has given each of us.
I pray that you, too, heed His call for your life, and I hope that He is calling you to support us with your prayers, the sharing of your financial blessings, and perhaps your time, through introducing your friends and parish to Catholic World Mission or joining us on a short-term mission.
God bless you!
Fr. Pedro Pablo Elizondo, LC
Farewell Letter from our founder, Father Thomas Moylan
Dear Friend,
Nearly five years have gone by since I founded Catholic World Mission, and with your help we have grown dramatically. Last September, our Lay Missionaries entered our fifth country (Guatemala), with more than 1,000 people working full-time to bring the Faith to over 1 million poor people in Latin America. Our Helping Hands Medical Missions have treated over 40,000 people, and last year we shipped over $3 million of medications for the poor. We are building our 17th Mano Amiga school, and have built 115 homes (almost half of our projected goal) in our "Living Stones" community built on the devastation of El Salvador's earthquakes.
Now confident in God's continuous blessings on our work and your ongoing support, I am turning over the position of President of Catholic World Mission to Fr. Pedro Pablo Elizondo, LC. He understands the poor we are trying to reach, especially since he is currently working among the Mayan Indians in Mexico. I hope you will support him with your prayers and generosity as you continue everyday to put your faith into action.
It has been my honor to serve you and our Catholic brothers and sisters.
God bless you,
Father Thomas Moylan, LC
